What I do, see, is code something that does what I want it to do, and if it turns out to be slower than molasses, I just go into a relatively short-term state of cold stasis. Typically, when I wake up and a half-decade or so has passed, I am generally pleased to be able to acquire hardware that runs my code 4x, 8x, and sometimes even 16x faster than it did before! It is truly a time saver, and also, I don't get vicious headaches anymore from trying to optimize my code. Less headaches = less voices in my head trying to get me to do stuff that is mostly straight-up immoral.
